LONDON (CelebrityAccess) Ed Sheeran completed an enormously successful year with his song “Perfect” peaking at #1 in 17 countries, including achieving his first Xmas #1 positions in the UK and Ireland.
The original version of “Perfect” is featured on Sheeran’s third studio album, + (pronounced “plus”).
An Irish music biz insider told the Irish Sun: “Ed Sheeran has the Christmas number one in Ireland. After all he’s had an incredible year. It’s true he has an incredible marketing machine around him and had a brilliant slot on the Late Late Show last week.
“But there’s also massive goodwill, because like or loathe Ed Sheeran, he’s widely regarded as a nice guy with no agenda who loves his fans.”
The singer-songwriter hit the #1 spot in the UK after releasing 6 versions of his single, including issuing the original, an acoustic version, remixes by Robin Schulz and Mike Perry, and duet versions Beyoncé, and Andrea Bocelli.
“This is an actual dream come true and I’m very proud and happy,” Sheeran said, wishing his fans “a very merry Christmas, happy holidays and a happy New Year”.
This week Spotify hailed Sheeran as its #1 streamed artist of 2017 in a holiday commercial. The ad features a smaller gingerbread version of Sheeran, complete with shaggy red mop, and a blissful Sheeran himself sitting in a cozy holiday-styled den with “Perfect” playing in the background. Sheeran then bites off the head of his cookie-self, and smiles into the camera.
