The festival began in 2013 under the guidance of Masquerade Music Park booking agent Tim Sweetwood, who said that the Atlanta market lacked a festival that booked acts that Shaky Knees now hosts. The festival was originally held at Historic Fourth Ward Park and Masquerade Music Park before shifting to Atlantic Station in 2014, Central Park in 2015, then Centennial Olympic Park 2016-17. Past acts to perform have included The Lumineers, The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, Cage the Elephant and Pixies.
