FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (CelebrityAccess) – Audio equipment manufacturer Bose has announced the acquisition of Groupon founder Andrew Masson’s walking tour startup, Detour.

The app was originally designed to help tourists and locals alike discover a city through narrated walking tours, however, Bose’s interest in the company’s software and tour content has to do with its recently announced plans to launch an AR platform around sensor-laden glasses.

For the time being, it looks like the Detour team will continue to manage the app and its content until May 31, at which time it will be removed from the app store. Though it is unclear when Detour will arrive on Bose AR as Bose is still in the process of finding a third-party partner to host its content, the company does expect Detour to re-emerge.

In a post published via Medium, Mason said that Bose is “a huge fan of the Detour experience” and that it thinks it could be a valuable asset to the company’s augmented reality platform, Bose AR.
