ATLANTA, GA (CelebrityAccess) — Rapper T.I. was arrested early Wednesday outside of the suburban Atlanta gated community where he resides on a variety of misdemeanor charges after a confrontation with a security guard.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Henry County Sheriff’s Office said T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., is facing misdemeanor charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness after the alleged confrontation with a security guard.
The Journal-Constitution reported that the incident occurred after T.I. tried to gain entrance into the community, where he lives with his wife and family, without his key.
In a statement provided to CNN, T.I.s attorney Steve Sadow said the rapper was “wrongfully arrested early this morning when he attempted to gain entrance into his gated community — where his wife ‘Tiny’ and his family reside.”
“The guard was sound asleep when Tip arrived at the guardhouse,” Sadow told CNN, using one of T.I’s nicknames. “It took Tip some time to wake up the sleeping guard.”
Sadow then told CNN that T.I. identified himself, but was refused entry. He then called his wife, who confirmed his identity to the guard, who continued to refuse him entry.
“The guard continued to refuse entry without justification,” the lawyer’s statement said. “Words were exchanged and apparently the guard and/or a supervisor called the police. When the police arrived, they were not interested in hearing Tip’s side of the story and wrongfully chose to end the situation by arresting Tip.”
TMZ posted a video which shows T.I. asking Henry County Sheriff why he was being arrested and appearing quite lucid in the process of doing so.
