LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — European digital music rights organization ICE announced a new multi-territory licensing deal with dance music-focused digital music service Mixcloud.

Mixcloud’s new ‘Core’ licence deal with ICE covers PRS, STIM and GEMA repertoire for their combined 290,000 members and repertoire for some of the leading independent music publishers.

Mixcloud currently has over 1.2 million content creators and streams more than 12 million DJ sets, radio shows and podcasts featuring artists such as Carl Cox, David Byrne and others. The site reports 17 million monthly active listeners.

“We’re pleased to be partnering with Mixcloud, a service whose interests are completely aligned with ours in maximising identification of compositions within the long-form content space. Said Tim Rawlinson, Head of Licensing at ICE. “The service offers a fantastic opportunity for the songwriters and publishers we represent to have their works feature in a diverse range of content and be properly paid for it. The new multi-year, multi-territory deal will help the service to continue to do just that as it grows.”

Mixcloud’s rights management system includes an audio fingerprinting tool built by their technology partner Gracenote, and a metadata analysis and engagement tracking system built-in house to power their reporting systems.

ICE was created by PRS, STIM and GEMA and represents over 290,000 rightsholders alone through this partnership. The ICE copyright database holds over 32 million musical works.
