LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Spotify CEO Daniel Ek admitted at a conference talk that his company did a poor job of rolling out a new content policy to root out hate speech and punish artists for misconduct.

“We rolled this out wrong and could have done a much better job,” Ek said in comments yesterday at the Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., according to Deadline Hollywood. adding that the details of the policy were too vague.

Spotify stopped promoting the music of R. Kelly and XXXTentacion who have been accused of statutory rape and battering a pregnant woman, respectively. However, the policy received backlash from acts like Kendrick Lamar and the company’s head of artist relations, Troy Carter, who considered the censorship an overarching concern. Hilary Rosen, the former chief of the RIAA, on the other hand, criticized the reversal saying Spotify was “a little ahead of the industry.”
