LONDON (CelebrityAccess) Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Danny Kirwan, 68, died in London. No cause of death was initially announced.

Kirwan was recruited to join the band by Mick Fleetwood when he was just 18 years old in 1968. He played on five of the band’s albums when it was still a “British” band.

Today was greeted by the sad news of the passing of Danny Kirwan in London, England. Danny was a huge force in our early years. His love for the Blues led him to being asked to join Fleetwood Mac in 1968, where he made his musical home for many years,” Mick Fleetwood wrote on the band’s website today.

Kirwan joined Fleetwood Mac after its 1968 release, Mr. Wonderful, playing on the band’s No. 1 single “Albatross” and would play guitar and be the singer on albums Then Play On, Blues Jam at Chess, Kiln House (the first album with Christine McVie), Future Games, and Bare Trees, according to Rolling Stone.

Kirwan was eventually fired because of alcoholism.
