LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – This week, Sony’s family-friendly animated sequel “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” topped the worldwide weekend box office, even though it didn’t include either lightsabers or spandex-clad superheroes.

“Hotel Transylvania 3” earned $44.1M in North America and $90.5M worldwide for its debut weekend, according to estimates compiled by comScore.

The third installment in the Hotel Transylvania franchise, it featured direction by Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter’s Lab, Samurai Jack) and a script by Tartakovsky and Michael McCullers (Austin Powers, Boss Baby). The movie also featured voice acting from Adam Sandler, Mel Brooks, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, David Spade and Steve Buscemi among others.

Also opening this weekend was Universal’s “Skyscraper” an action-thriller featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The film, which was essentially a re-working of the 1988 Bruce Willis hit “Die Hard” landed with a thud, earning an estimated $25.5M in North America and $65.9M worldwide, with an estimated production budget of $125 million.

Disney’s “Ant-Man And The Wasp” slipped to 4th place in the worldwide box office roundup, but still managed to earn a respectable $65.9M for the weekend,
