SANTA MONICA, Calif. (CelebrityAccess) Patrick Williams, 79, well-known television and film music composer, died of complications from cancer in Santa, Monica., Calif., July 25.

Williams earned an Oscar for adapting opera into the 1979 film “Breaking Away,” plus four Emmys for dramatic music (including for “Lou Grant”), and two Grammys for arrangements, according to Variety. Some of his more memorable scores are for “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” “Columbo” and “The Streets of San Francisco.” He was also nominated for a Pulitzer for his “An American Concerto” for jazz quartet and symphony.

Williams scored nearly 50 films and garnered 22 Emmy nominations for his television work.
