European Parliament Votes For Article 13

LONDON (CelebrityAccess) – The European Parliament has voted to accept the Article 13 digital copyright reforms, MusicWeek has reported.

The music industry at large has been advocating for the adoption of Article 13 for some time now as it directly combats the rampant issue of copyright infringement taking place on platforms like YouTube, where thousands of unlicensed songs and videos are uploaded every second.

The adoption of Article 13 is a huge win for artists as it forces the hand of major tech companies and places responsibility on them to police copyrights on user-generated content by either restricting posts or by obtaining full licenses for copyrighted material.

Rosanne Cash, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and vice president of artist advocacy organization Content Creators Coalition, today penned an open letter in MusicWeek further detailing why the EU’s adoption of Article 13 is an important step toward leveling the playing field and creating a fair music economy.
