(CelebrityAccess) –In a recent surprise move, Spotify announced last week that it would be giving indie artists who own their own copyrights the option of uploading their music directly to the streaming service for free, rather than requiring them to use a distributor.
Now, UK-based digital distributor, Ditto Music has announced its own independent artist driven tool, Ditto Plus. The program essentially pulls together key services typically handled by a major label––i.e. things like public relations, social media support, creative design, digital marketing, radio promotion and playlist pitching––and offers them to indie acts looking to manage their own careers.
Ditto says Plus deals, which will be made available to artists, managers and independent labels, will also offer artists a “fairer” royalty rate, with no upfront fee.
Commenting on the recent news, Ditto CEO Lee Parsons said in a statement: “It’s an exciting time for independent music and its never been more important for artists to have the right team backing them. Ditto pride ourselves in having one of the most successful track records in the business for emerging talent. With 19 global offices, we are opening up these tools to even more artists and our amazing team are here to work with them, whatever stage they are in their career.”
