SALT LAKE CITY (CelebrityAccess) – Cody Belgard, a Utah rapper who performed under the name “See Smoke,” was shot and killed by Salt Lake City Police officers after he reportedly tried to ram a police car, reports AP.
Authorities say Belgard was believed to have been a driver in a vehicle that previously fled police, and that he was shot at after he ignored officers’ commands.
According to the coroner’s autopsy report, Belgard was shot twice in the back.
With authorities unwilling to provide insight into the events leading up to the rapper’s death, dozens of people demonstrated on Saturday to protest the shooting, according to AP.
The West Valley City Police Department will lead an investigation into the shooting.
