FORT WORTH, Texas (CelebrityAccess) — Fort Worth’s under construction Dickies Arena has revealed that country music legend George Strait will be the first artist to perform at the venue when it opens next year.

Strait is slated to headline a show at the arena on Nov. 22nd, 2019, in what will be his first performance in Forth Worth in more than 35 years.

“We are thrilled to make Texas legend George Strait our first concert announcement at Dickies Arena. This performance will be in one of George Strait’s most intimate arena settings, and we can’t wait to bring this to Fort Worth,” Matt Homan, the president, and general manager of the arena said in a news release.

While Strait retired from full time touring in 2014, with his “Cowboy Rides Away Tour,” he’s been playing select one-off dates, including a show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta next March and a short residency at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas next year.

Dickies Arena is currently on track to open after a $540 million build-out after breaking ground in April 2017. The venue, located adjacent to the Will Rogers Memorial Center, will seat 14,000 fans with 5,000 of its seats being built on a “variable rise system” that will allow for reconfigurable seating and will serve as the home of the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo performances after it debuts.
