Warner Bros. Aquaman Debuts To Almost $100m In China

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Warner Bros. latest entry into the super hero format, Aquaman, debuted to almost $100m in China this week.

The film, which launched in approximately 33,000 3D-equipped Chinese theaters, raked in an impressive $93.6M from the single market.

Based on the D.C. Comics character of the same name, Aquaman was directed by James Wan, who is better known for his horror films, such as Saw and The Conjuring.

Aquaman stars Hawaiian heartthrob Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo from HBO’s Game of Thrones) in the titular role alongside a veteran cast that includes Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman.

Universal’s Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch continued to be a draw, generating $41.1M worldwide over the weekend, while Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody and Warner Bros.’ Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald both crossed the $400 million mark internationally this weekend.
