LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — As the Rolling Stones gear up for their North American No Filter run, guitarist Keith Richards reveals that he’s (mostly) stopped drinking.
“It’s been about a year now,” Richards told Rolling Stone in a recent interview. “I pulled the plug on it. I got fed up with it.”
“It was time to quit,” Richards added. “Just like all the other stuff.” However, he did note that he still has “a glass of wine occasionally, and a beer.”
Richards long had notoriety for his use of various recreationally intoxicating substances and has faced criminal sanction at various points of his career for heroin, cannabis, and amphetamines.
But at the age of 74, he appears to have slowed down and in 2016, he told Rolling Stone that he’d scaled back his drug use to just cannabis and hashish.
Bandmate Ronnie Wood, who went sober in 2010, was pleased with Richards’ decision to give up the sauce.
“It just wasn’t working anymore, you know,” Wood told Rolling stone. “I think the Keith that we used to know and love had this cutoff point where if he had one more, he’d go over the top and he’d be nasty. The cutoff point became shorter and shorter, you know, and he realized that.”
