LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Kanye West was reportedly dropped from this year’s Coachella lineup after Goldenvoice declined to build a special stage which he requested just three months before the festival was due to start.
According to Billboard, West, who was due to be announced as a headliner on January 3rd, asked festival co-founder Paul Tollett on New Year’s Day for a custom-made dome-shaped stage in the center of the festival ground.
The dome, which included video screens, would be designed by John McGuire, would allow West to perform in-the-round. The stage would also assuage Kanye’s concern that the festival’s main stage would not be large enough to accommodate his performance.
When Goldenvoice explained that the proposed stage was not feasable, and would require significant changes to the festival’s layout, West became annoyed that an artist of with his creative vision was reduced to arguing about toilet layout, a source told Billboard.
At that point, Goldenvoice decided to go in a different direction and tapped singer Ariana Grande as a replacement for the final night’s headliner.
