VALLEJO, CA (CelebrityAccess) – A 21-year-old rapper was fatally shot by California police Saturday while asleep in his car.
The man, who has been identified by family as Willie Bo (real name Willie McCoy), was parked outside of a Taco Bell when six Vallejo officers fired “multiple rounds” at his vehicle killing him.
According to authorities, McCoy had a handgun on him at the time of the shooting, and the officers dispatched their firearms out of a “fear for their own safety”.
McCoy’s family are accusing police of racially profiling the young black man, saying there was no justification for using deadly force against someone who was sleeping.
In a statement released earlier this week, the Vallejo Police Department said that they were checking up on McCoy after a Taco Bell employee called 911 to report a man “slumped over” behind the wheel of his car in the drive-through lane. The officers reportedly found McCoy unresponsive with a handgun on his lap while the vehicle was running. After McCoy awoke “suddenly”, officers say they told him to “keep his hands visible” but that he “quickly moved them downward for the firearm”.
Police are also saying that all six officers fired shots within roughly four seconds, however, have not disclosed the number of bullets that struck McCoy. The officers reportedly continued shouting commands before removing McCoy from the vehicle and “rendering medical assistance”.
He died on the scene.
