Apple Launches iPhone Security Patches Along With New Services

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) While Apple was touting its new streaming service, it was also fixing up its latest operating system with 51 patches related to security.

One of the most significant upgrades was patching a flaw that would allow malicious applications to access the microphone and record the user and the surroundings, according to CNN Business.

Other patches for iOS 12.2 include fixing a problem with FaceTime that prevented video chats from pausing when the app was closed and another fix closed a loophole that allowed users to access sensitive information in the Messages app and Safari to see information from their phone’s light and motion sensors, CNN said.

Yet others dealt with phone memory and SMS hacking and some patches impacted devices other than the iPhone, such as laptops and iPads.

The fixes come before Apple’s big push into content and entertainment. Privacy was apparently a big buzzword during Monday’s press event, with the company saying it would maintain user privacy when suggesting content for users of its News+ magazine subscription service. It also pledged that partner Goldman Sachs, a partner with Apple, wouldn’t share Apple cardholder’s data for marketing.
