Doctor Music Festival Relocates Over Potential Flood Risk

ESCALARRE, Spain (CelebrityAccess) 0-Organizers of Doctor Music Festival were forced to relocate the festival and pare back its opening day after the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) warned that the event’s original location was at risk of flooding.

The return of Doctor Music Festival was due to be held in the Escalarre Vall d’Àneu valley, where the festival’s previous editions had also been held. However, due to a report by the ACA released last Thursday, the festival was forced to relocate.

While the festival did move, they appeared to do so grudgingly, and took exception to the ACA report, noting:

“In our opinion, there has been a very over-exaggerated and destructive interpretation of the regulations surroundings theoretical flood risks in the valley, which has never before flooded in summer (at least as far as current data shows). The stringency levels which have been applied in this case far surpass the norm and we have therefore been forced to abandon the originally planned location in order to ensure that all artistic commitments made are complied with, and make sure that the festival goes ahead as per originally designed for this new edition.”

As a result of the move, the opening day of the festival on Thursday, July 11th, has been canceled. Headliners Parquet Courts will now perform on Friday, and the Smashing Pumpkins have been rescheduled to Sunday.

“[The Pumpkins] accepted this change with the respect and courtesy only worthy of one of the most emblematic bands on the international music scene. The band was willing to accommodate the date and time change for the sake of the festival, their fans, and the other bands,” fest organizers said.

All other previously announced acts will perform at the new location with the exception of the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, festival organizers added.

As well, festival organizers DMF announced a new slate of artists joining the lineup that includes Luciano, Empire of the Sun, Sopa De Cabra, Johnny Marr, Kamasi Washington, Texas, Sophie Hunger, Nahako & Medicine For The People, Obeses, Hollow Cry, La Iaia, Stay, Phutochinomaricon, They, El Petit De Cal Eril, Alé D´Euga, and Maritrini Y Sussicarios.
