DETROIT, MI (CelebrityAccess) — Organizers for the Detroit Jazz Festival presented by Quicken Loans announced the details and lineup for the event’s 40th anniversary.
Set for Labor Day Weekend (August 30 – September 3rd) at Hart Plaza and Campus Martius Park in Detroit, the festival features a lineup headlined by Macy Gray, Pat Metheny, Chucho Valdés, Yellowjackets with Luciana Souza, and the Kenny Garrett Quintet.
The festival has also named pioneering bassist and founding member of Return To Forever Stanley Clarke as its 2019 Artist-in-Residence.
Clark will perform ‘A night of jazz with the Stanley Clarke Band’ on Sunday evening. As well, Clark will perform from his seminal 1976 album School Days on Friday evening and from his material from the 1991 John Singleton film “Boyz In The Hood”
Clark’s scheduled sets during previous iterations of the festival in 2014 and 2017 were canceled due to inclement weather.
“We’re really excited about the exceptional lineup we’ve assembled for the 40th year celebration which reflects a reunion of some of the most inspiring performers and performances we’ve had the pleasure of hosting over the last 10 years at the jazz festival,” said Chris Collins, president and artistic director of the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation. “From jazz legends to up-and-coming revolutionaries and Detroit Homecoming artists, these artists have become a part of our extended family and it’s only appropriate they come back to headline our reunion year.”
