LAS VEGAS (CelebrityAccess) — Rapper and social media maven Cardi B led the charge for the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.
The “I Like It” picked up an impressive 21 nominations, including double nominations in three categories – top Hot 100 song, top-selling song, and top collaboration.
Cardi B’s collection of 21 nominations was just shy of the record of 22 in a single year, which is jointly held by Drake and The Chainsmokers.
Other nominees include Post Malone, who picked up 17 nominations, including picks for Top Artist, Top Male Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Artist. Drake also landed 17 nominations and is also vying for Top Artist, Top Male Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Artist.
Travis Scott received 12 nominations, followed by the late XXXTENTACION with 10 and Ariana Grande with nine. Nominated for two awards this year, Taylor Swift still leads the pack for most wins of all time with 23, a record she could break again with a win this year.
2019 also saw Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper pick up nominations for chart achievement award, top soundtrack for the hit movie A Star Is Born, and top-selling song for “Shallow.”
The 2019 Billboard Music Awards will take place on May 1st at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The festivities will be hosted by Kelly Clarkson and will air live on NBC, starting at 8 pm.
