LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Seymour Cassel, 84, a prolific actor known for roles in several Wes Anderson movies, died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease in Los Angeles.

Cassel was in Anderson films “Rushmore,” “The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou,” and “The Royal Tenenbaums,” and received an Academy Award nomination for his role in “Faces,” one of many independent films involving the actor.

He also worked with director John Cassavetes on several projects, including Cassavetes’ first film, “Shadows,” in 1958, where he became an associate producer. He co-starred in Cassavetes films “Too Late Blues” and “The Webster Boy” and appeared on “The Lloyd Bridges Show” in the Cassavetes-directed episode “A Pair Of Boots.”

Television credits include “Twelve O’Clock High,” “Combat!,” “The F.B.I.” and “Batman” in the episode “A Piece of the Action.”

Other film credits include “Dick Tracy,” “Tin Men,” “The Last Tycoon,” “Honeymoon in Vegas,” “Convoy,”  “Indecent Proposal” and Steve Buscemi’s directorial debut “Trees Lounge.”  He also starred in Buscemi’s “Animal Factory” and “Lonesome Jim.” 

He ran, unsuccessfully, to be president of SAG in 2007 and 2009.
