AUCKLAND, NZ (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The 2012 edition of Big Day Out will be the final bow for the festival in New Zealand.
Festival organizer Ken West announced that while the annual touring festival would continue next year in Australia, it would not make a return to Auckland after an 18 year run.
"Here's the hard thing. I've had to make this decision probably in the last half an hour just sitting down and being here, and stuff like that, and I'm going to have to say that this is the last Big Day Out in New Zealand," West told New Zealand's TV3.
The announcement was confirmed by a Tweet on BDO's official twitter account, which read: "This year will be New Zealand's last Big Day Out. Come party with us this Friday. It's been an amazing 18 years here in Auckland."
The BDO festival has struggled with sales this year, forcing organizers to pare some events and headliners, including Kanye West from the Auckland, Adelaide and Perth shows. The festival appears unlikely to sell out its 45,000 capacity ahead of the opening of the Auckland date, which is set to take place this weekend, the New Zealand Herald said. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
