After eight months of arguments and a new city council, Peoria, IL native Richard Pryor is having a street named for him.
In a 6-5 vote, a seven-block stretch on the city's south side has been changed to "Richard Pryor Place." The months of arguing stemmed from whether it was appropriate to honor the comedian whose repertoire included raunchy material and his history of drug abuse and domestic violence.
"I'm not focusing on all the bad – all the negative aspects – but the good things that Richard Pryor has done for the city of Peoria,'' said Councilman Clyde Gulley Jr., who voted for the measure.
