Australia's Soulfest Festival Canceled

SYDNEY, Australia (CelebrityAccess) — Organizers for the touring Australian music festival Neo-Soul, RnB and Hip-Hop Soulfest have announced that the event has been cancelled, just days ahead of its scheduled opening date.

In a post on their website, festival organizers wrote that the festivals were cancelled in the face of poor ticket sales. The touring festival had events scheduled to take place in Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney, with sideshows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, with the first event set to open on Oct. 20th.

2015 would have been the second year for the event series, which was launched in 2014 by promoter John Denison who is director at International Entertainment Group. The 2015 lineup included Mary J Blige, Jill Scott, Jhene Aiko, Charlie Wilson, De La Soul, Talib Kweli, Floetry, Eric Benet, Dwele, Daniel Merriweather, Kamasi Washington, Remi, Dj Trey, Soul of Sydney Djs, Thandi Phoenix.

"Soulfest was launched with the intention of promoting genres of music that are often overlooked commercially in this country, specifically Neo-Soul, RnB and Hip-Hop, and Soulfest 2014 successfully delivered some of the most exciting talent within these genres. Despite a stellar line-up of artists and the best promotional endeavours on Soulfest’s behalf, the event has simply not received the support via ticket sales, and the financial loss that would be incurred by the event if it were to go ahead as planned would be devastating," festival organizers wrote. – Staff Writers
