AXS Acquires Examiner.com In Deal To Drive Content

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) – AXS, AEG’s digital ticketing and media platform has acquired the digital content provider Examiner.com from Clarity Media Group, a division of AXS's parent, the Anshutz corporation.

Launched in 2008, Examiner.com allows local freelance writers to produce and distribute content, compensating them through a "black box" system based on page views and other metrics. In 2009, Nielsen Online named Examiner.com as the fastest growing of the top 30 Internet news sites in the United States, attracting more than 7.5 million unique visitors in 12 months.

AXS stated that they intend to leverage the resources and content from Examiner.com to generate original content for the AXS.com platform with 'examiners' writing articles each day about live events.

“Fans have told us they don’t see the populated social media feeds of other event focused websites as truly engaging content; instead they are craving content with a deeper, authentic and editorial connection, curated for their live entertainment interests” said Mr. Perez. “The Examiner platform allows AXS to do this at scale immediately,” said Ashish Kapur, CEO of Examiner.com, who will now be joining the AXS team as the Senior Vice President of Content.

Examiner.com began its life as a domain name for the San Francisco Examiner, which was acquired by Clarity Media in 2004. Existing content not related to live entertainment will continue to be produced on Examiner.com. – Staff Writers
