Bassist Frank Watkins Dies

(CelebrityAccess) — Frank Watkins, a heavy metal musician and music manager who served as a bassist for bands such as Obituary and Gorgoroth, died on October 18th after a battle with cancer. He was 47.

Watkins was perhaps best known as the longtime bassist for Florida-based death metal band Obituary, performing on all of the group's studio albums save for their 1989 debut "Slowly We Rot" until they broke up in 1997. When they reformed in 2003, he rejoined the group, continuing to play with the group until parting ways in 2010.

In 2007, Watkins joined the Norwegian black metal band Gorgoroth, performing live with the band and recording with them under the alias Bøddel for their 2009 album "Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt" and 2015 release "Instinctus Bestialis."

Watkins was also interested in the business end of the music industry and formed his own management firm Back From The Dead in 2007. – Staff Writers
