Beauty & The Beast On The Fast Track To $1bn

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — For the third weekend in a row, Disney's live action musical remake of the classic fairy tale Beauty & The Beast was the top movie worldwide, generating $114.0M in box office revenue, according to estimates compiled by comScore.

All told, "Beauty" is well on its way to grossing more than a $1bn worldwide, earning an estimated cumulative total of $876 million in just three weeks.

While Beauty remained on top in international markets, it did slip to number two domestically, behind 20th Century Fox's animated comedy "Boss Baby." Starring Alec Baldwin as the titular character, the film grossed an estimated $49.0M domestically and $85.2M in its debut weekend.

Paramount's special effects heavy remake of the 1993 cult anime classic "Ghost In The Shell" rounded out the top three films of the weekend both domestically and internationally. The film, which stars Scarlett Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi (one is left to guess that all of the Japanese actresses were busy,) generated an estimated $19m in North America and $59.1M worldwide for its' debut.
