Bonnaroo NE Set for LI August 8-10

The Dead, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty and the

Heartbreakers are the headliners for Bonnaroo NE to take place August 8-10 at Enterprise Park in Riverhead, New York (Long Island). The three-day camping and music festival will be modeled after the original Bonnaroo Music Festival which will once again take place June 13-15 in Manchester, TN. The producers of both Bonnaroo events are Superfly Productions and A.C. Entertainment.

The concert will be held on the former Grumman grounds in Calverton, a part of Riverhead. Tickets go on sale May 7, and 75,000 people are expected to attend each day. Bonnaroo NE will undoubtedly be the largest outdoor rock concert ever staged on Long Island.

While Bonnaroo NE will carry many of the favorable features of the Tennessee festival, it is designed to stand as a landmark event with its own unique character. “We’re keeping many of the concepts that make the Tennessee festival successful, “ says Superfly’s Jonathan Mayers, “but we are developing new ideas to give the NE event a separate identity.” Bonnaroo NE will showcase live performers from an ambitious array of genres, including rock, jazz, folk, funk, pop, hip-hop, electronic, and indie rock.

Bonnaroo NE will include a plethora of non-music attractions and festival extras that are currently being planned. These attractions will be similar in sprit to the attractions offered at the original Bonnaroo which included a festival village, a retro arcade tent, a 24-hour cinema tent, and a cyber café. At Bonnaroo NE, patrons will encounter a similar setup, with a distinct set of vendors and activities.

In the months following the first annual event, Bonnaroo emerged as a familiar brand name representing its own unique approach to entertainment. Last fall, Bonnaroo and Sanctuary Records released Live from Bonnaroo, a double CD featuring live tracks from the festival and a 40-page booklet. A month later Bonnaroo released the now-certified gold double DVD documentary companion to the festival, including live concert footage, interviews, and an artist photo gallery.
