BLOOMFIELD, CO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Broomfield Sports & Entertainment has requested to be released from its management contract at the Bloomfield Event Center after requesting assistance from the Bloomfield City Council in paying its quarterly insurance premium and help with utility bills.
Located in the Denver suburbs, the Broomfield Event Center is a 6,000 seat multi-purpose arena built with $59.78 million in public bonds. It first opened its doors in 2006 and currently plays home to the minor league hockey team 'The Rocky Mountain Rage' and the D-league basketball team 'The 14ers' as well as regularly hosting concerts and other events.
The request for Broomfield Sports & Entertainment to be released from their contract was made on Jan 13th by the company's director Tim Wiens.
Wiens was quick to point out that he expected that the center will remain in open and that Bloomfield Sports & Entertainment would continue to oversee operations until a new manager could be located. The current staff at the venue is expected to remain in place.
"I'm not abandoning anything, and the city's not abandoning anything," Wiens told the Broomfield Enterprise.
The center opened with a Bonnie Raitt concert in November 2006 but after that, the center saw little use with months going by without a concert date, the Bloomfield Enterprise reported. Last fall saw an increase in concert dates, including gigs by Oasis, Weezer, NKOTB and Panic! at the Disco, but ticket sales were softer than expected.
"We had a lot of good events in the fall that should have done much better. People didn't have the money, or they didn't want to part with it," BS&E CEO and venue operations manager Gene Felling told the Enterprise.
Wiens is still upbeat on the Center's prospects. Wiens feels that the Center has developed a good reputation with promoters and that the venue appears to have recently "turned a corner."
