SAINT TROPEZ (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The French media are reporting that Margaritaville singer Jimmy Buffett was detained for transporting an illicit substance, allegedly identified as the club drug ecstasy.
The alleged contraband was discovered when customs officials at Toulon-Hyeres International Airport in southern France, searched his luggage after he landed there in a private jet.
He had reportedly traveled to the French Riviera to vacation.
Buffett was not arrested. He paid a 400-dollar fine and was released.
The New York Post reported that a spokeswoman for Buffett disputed the media reports. She claimed that customs officials found only twenty pills and that they were a legal prescription medication.
