Cablevision Continues Fight Against Proposed Stadium

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The owner of Madison Square Garden, Cablevision, is continuing to fight against a proposed football stadium being built in the city. The cable company has already began an advertising campaign criticizing the city for financing the stadium, and has requested that City Council even pass a law to prevent it.

The $1.4 billion proposal for the 75,000-seat stadium for the New York Jets will pose a direct threat to the Garden, according to Cablevision.

If Cablevision is successful in its fight to pass the law, Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office will be unable to add on a proposed $300 million of tax revenue to the cost of the stadium.

Bloomberg’s office has repeatedly criticized Cablevision’s actions, claiming these are merely attempts to monopolize the sports and entertainment industry in the city. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
