GARFIELD, Texas (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Texas-based singer-songwriter Calvin Russell has died from complications related to cancer. He was 62.
Calvin, dogged by drug-related legal trouble in his youth, was mentored by Townes Van Zandt and was eventually signed by Patrick Mathe, owner of the roots-based French label New Rose Records.
His 1990 debut album "A Crack in Time" became a hit in Europe and Russell later went on to release a total of 15 albums, most of which also found success in Europe.
While quite successful across the pond, Russell only found limited success in the U.S.
According to Variety, Russell is survived by his wife, Cynthia. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
