Checketts Group Pursuing Blues

SAINT LOUIS (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — According to Newsweek Dave Checketts is heading a group of investors who have entered into a letter of intent to purchase the St. Louis Blues and Savvis Center. The team yesterday confirmed that current owners Bill and Nancy Laurie will negotiate exclusively with Sports Capital Partners for 30 days.

"We welcome Sports Capital Partners' interest and we look forward to working out the details of an agreement that we hope will benefit all involved, including the team and the city of St. Louis," team president Mark Sauer said in a statement.

Checketts previously served as CEO and president of Madison Square Garden and before that was president of the Knicks. He was fired as the Garden president in May 2001. Sports Capital Partners has interests in Major League Soccer and the College Sports Television Network.

The Lauries announced in June their intentions to sell the team, citing major financial losses. The team is tied to the arena; therefore it is unlikely it could be moved.

The Blues have made the playoffs for 25 consecutive seasons, which is a North American pro sports record.
