‘Chet Helms Tribal Stomp’ Set For Oct. 30

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A free concert will be held in the Speedway Meadows section of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on October 30th to honor the late legendary San Francisco promoter Chet Helms, who died earlier this year of a stroke.

The show, dubbed the “Chet Helms Tribal Stomp,” will feature many of the legends of the San Francisco scene, of which Helms was considered a founding father, including members of Jefferson Starship, The Chalatans, Eric Burdon, Dan Hicks, Country Joe McDonald, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Canned Heat, Blue Cheer, Vince Welnick, and counter culture icon Wavy Gravy.

A tribute show was held earlier in the year at the Great American Music Hall, but sold out so rapidly that organizers promised a public appreciation in the future.

Helms, who is credited with discovering Janis Joplin among others, also promoted many events through the ‘90s at venues along the west coast and The Family Dog clubs in Denver and San Francisco. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
