City May Take Steps In Mizner Park Dispute

BOCA RATON (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The city of Boca Raton has said that they may start booking their own acts into the Count de Hoernle Amphitheater in Mizner Park if Live Nation and the Schmidt Family Centre for the Arts can't resolve their dispute.

Schmidt Family Centre for the Arts which contracts with Live Nation to book the venue contends that Live Nation hasn't brought enough musical acts to the venue. According to the Sun-Sentinel, Live Nation's contract stipulates that they were to produce 25 concerts at the shed but only staged 9 last year in an abbreviated season. Live Nation is reportedly disgruntled by the number of potential customers who instead park with blankets in a nearby plaza and watch the concerts for free.

"None of us are happy," Charlie Siemon, of the Centre for the Art told the Sun-Sentinel. "We're trying to work through that and reconcile it but it's not yet resolved."

If the two erstwhile partners cannot resolve their dispute, the city appears ready to take steps, with City Manager Leif Ahnel indicating last week that they city would exercise its' prerogative to book city-sponsored events at the venue.

"We would open it up to all promoters and groups so there's more flexibility to arrange events," Ahnel told the Sentinel. "Our reason for being is to have events at the amphitheater." – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
