Cubans Line Up For Stones Concert

HAVANA, Cuba (CelebrityAccess) — Music fans in Cuba were eager for the start of the first concert in the island nation by The Rolling Stones, and started lining up outside a Havana sports complex more than 12 hours ahead of time, Reuters reported.

"I love Mike Jagger so much. I've always dreamed about this. I couldn't sleep knowing he would be here," Angela Menendez, a hospital janitor told Reuters.

Reuters reported that while many of the waiting crowd appeared to be sporting a wide variety of clothing and even face paint depicting the famous Stones lips logo, there was a notable absence of merchandise for sale.

The Stones are the first major international act to play in Cuba since the relaxing of the embargo that has been in place for the Carribean nation since the overthrow of the Batista government in 1959.

The Stones, much like other western rock and pop groups were considered an ideological deviation from revolutionary Marxism. While never forbidden by law, the taboo against such music and other forms of western media only began to relax in the 1980s.

"Time changes everything," Jagger told reporters upon his arrival at Havana airport on Thursday. – Staff Writers
