David Bowie Takes Top Honors At 2017 Brit Awards

LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — The late rock star David Bowie had a big night at the Brit Awards, taking, albeit posthumously, the awards for best British male artist and best British album, for his final album, Blackstar.

Bowie's win meant a shut-out Brit awards for much-buzzed-about grime artist Skepta, who was nominated for male solo artist, breakthrough act, and best British album. Rag’n’Bone Man took the prize for breakthrough as well as critics choice.

Scottish recording artist Emeli Sandé took the prize for British female artist while The 1975 took top honors for British group.

Adele was recognized with the global achievement award – given to the British artist with the biggest overseas success. The singer, on a break from her world tour, accepted the prize by video.

Standout performances for the evening included Skepta, who performed his hit "Shut Down" and Ed Sheeran, who was joined by South London MC Stormzy for a rendition of Sheeran's "Shape of You."

Held at the O2 in London, the awards were hosted by Dermot O'Leary and Emma Willis. According to the BBC, an average of 5.4 million viewers tuned in to watch the ceremony on Wednesday night, down slightly from 2016. – Staff writers
