Dolly Kicks Off World Tour

NASHVILLE, TN (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Country music icon Dolly Parton has started a major new world tour that will carry through the Spring and Summer.

Dolly will be hitting the road in support of her latest album, "Backwoods Barbie," which she released on her own label, Dolly Records. The tour had been scheduled to start earlier this year, but medical problems forced the singer to postpone until she had recovered.

The tour kicked off on April 21st in Pittsburgh and will carry the country star until August 3 when she'll play the last date at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.

A recent "American Idol" appearance emphasized the need for the singer to reconnect with younger fans. "One thing we found out from 'American Idol': Most people don't know that Dolly Parton wrote 'I Will Always Love You,' most people don't know she has sold 110 million units, that she has 25 No. 1 singles, that she has 79 albums out, published 3,000 songs," Danny Nozell, Parton's manager and GM of Dolly Records told Reuters. "We're not reinventing Dolly. We're just reintroducing her to a younger generation." – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
