eBay Suing Australia’s Big Day Out Organizers

MELBOURNE, Australia (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Internet auction site eBay.com is reportedly suing the organizers of Australia’s Big Day Out concert tour over their new anti-scalping ticket policy.

eBay claims the promoters are breaching trade practices legislation by tightening their ticketing conditions, according to Melbourne’s Herald Sun.

The changes mean Big Day Out ticket bought from eBay will not be valid if promoters can track down the reseller through ticket numbers, ticketing agencies or credit card details and void the tickets.

Spokesman for eBay Daniel Filer says: "It does relate to fair trading and the term and condition in Big Day Out tickets is, we believe, to be misleading and deceptive."

Big Day Out has become the country's biggest live music festival drawing more than 220,000 people to pack six venues in Australia and New Zealand for the annual festival, with fans paying well over $100 a ticket per show. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
