Economic Downturn Affecting NH Theaters

CONCORD, NH (AP) – Officials at some of New Hampshire's theaters and performing arts centers say they are being more conservative as they line up shows for the next year.

Ric Waldman, director of programing at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, says his venue is filling its schedule with more economical shows that will allow ticket prices to remain low, while at the same time booking blockbusters that will command higher prices.

At the Lebanon Opera House, director Heather Clow says she longer counts on corporate sponsors when scheduling shows because companies are giving less or not at all.

And in Keene, Colonial Theater director Alec Doyle says he'll be trying to play it a little safe by focusing on well known names.
