Finnish Jazz Star Makes Special Appearances To Honor Salonen


Bianca Morales, a Finnish jazz star, performed yesterday at the IAJE convention in Long Beach, the NAMM convention in Anaheim, the TEN20 Room of the Bel Age Hotel twice and two shows at the Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood. Morales was in town to present her new CD, "Roman Adventure".

Yesterday's event was part of Grammy week and its salute to classical music, honoring Esa-Pekka Salonen, Maestro conductor/composer of the L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra, with a program in the Crystal Ballroom of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in L.A., that included a reception, lunch and a musical presentation.

The music presented was by promising new talented students from USC, the Davidson Fine Arts School and the Young Musicians Foundation Chamber Ensemble. President of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, made the Tribute & Presentation to Salonen. Salonen joines previous honorees: Beverly Sills, Itzhak Perlman, Zubin Mehta, Isaac Stern, Mariyn Horne, Van Cliburn, Mstislave Rostropovich, and Sir James Galway.
