Flamenco Singer Montoya Dies At 75

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) – Antonio Nunez Montoya, the legendary Spanish flamenco artist known to his fans as ‘El Chocolate’, has died of cancer at the age of 75.

Montoya had been performing until recently, according to his wife, and died at his home in the southern Spanish city of Seville.

Born in 1931, Montoya’s career stretched over seven decades. Critics considered him one of the greatest living flamenco artists, following in the tradition of pure flamenco singers such as Tomas Pavon and Manuel Torre.

In 2003, Montoya received a medal from the region of Andalusia for his contributions to traditional flamenco music. He also won the 2002 Latin Grammy award for Best Flamenco Album. –by CelebrityAccess MediaWire
