The Second Annual Future of Music Policy Summit has been set for Jan 7-8, 2002 at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. More than 700 musicians, lawyers, artists, academics, and policymakers will debate the most contentious issues surrounding digital technology and artists' rights.
Keynote addresses will be made by Representative Rick Boucher (D-VA) (co-chairman of the Congressional Internet Caucus, who introduced the "Music Online Competition Act" (MOCA)) and Representative John Conyers (D-MI) (the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee and a leading advocate for artists' rights).
Among the more than 70 panelists are Hilary Rosen (President/CEO, RIAA), Marilyn Bergman (President, ASCAP), Chuck D. (Public Enemy), actor/author Al Franken, Danny Goldberg (President, Artemis Records), musician Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads/garageband.com), Ian MacKaye (Dischord Records/Fugazi), NPR Cultural Correspondent Rick Karr, Rob Reid (Founder, Listen.com), Tom Silverman (CEO, Tommy Boy Records), Ted Tanner (Microsoft), Manus Cooney (VP Corporate and Policy Development, Napster), Bruce Lehman (International Intellectual Property Institute) and many more.
The event is presented by The Future of Music Coalition, a not-for-profit, grassroots collaboration between leading independent musicians and experts from the worlds of technology, public policy and intellectual property law. The FMC seeks to educate the media and policymakers about music/technology issues, while also bringing together key stakeholders in an effort to come up with creative solutions.
