Glastonbury Festival Honored

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Glastonbury Festival has won awards for best major festival and best innovative festival in the first ever awards ceremony for festivals, festival performers and festival organizers.

The awards were presented by Virtual Festivals which had over 17,000 voters visit their website (http://www.virtualfestivals.com) to vote. Festival organizer Michael Eavis told the BBC, “Obviously I am very, very pleased that the public have recognised our work. It is a great accolade.”

He also added, when asked about the award for best innovative festival, “We come up with new ideas for the festival all the time and I'm thrilled to bits the public like that. My ideas come in the middle of the night. I always keep a torch and a notebook by the side of my bed to write them down.”

Big Chill – Best small festival
Get Loaded In The Park – Best new festival
Party In The Park – Best one-day festival
Download – Best themed festival

The outstanding contribution award, which was not voted on by the public, was posthumously given to DJ John Peel of the BBC who regularly covered the Glastonbury Festival. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
