The 48th Annual Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles at STAPLES Center on February 8. The show will be broadcast on the CBS Television Network at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), marking the 33rd consecutive year the show will air on CBS.
Additionally, the Gramy Awards telecast will continue utilizing the latest in high-definition TV/5.1 surround sound technology to provide a more immersive viewing and listening experience for the show's global audience.
Kicking off Grammy Season is the announcement of nominations in all 108 categories, which showcase who The Recording Academy's membership of music professionals believe are the best of the best during the eligibility period (October 1, 2004-September 30, 2005) to be made in Los Angeles on December 7.
"With our aim to always raise the level of excellence and excitement on Music's Biggest Night, the 47th Grammy Awards was heralded by artists, viewers and the media as one of the best Grammys ever, and we have every intention of topping that with our 48th show," said Recording Academy President Neil Portnow.
"Throughout Grammy Week, we produce events that spotlight specific genres of music, that help educate students about the value of and opportunities in music, that fuse music with fashion, and honor the lifetime achievements of music's greatest icons. And The Recording Academy proudly presents a show that features diversity, special Grammy moments and collaborations never seen before, and represents the one thread that truly binds us all: really great live music. We are pleased to team in this effort once again with our great friends at STAPLES Center and our terrific partners at CBS."
"We are proud once again to join our partners at The Recording Academy to bring the music world's most talented stars into our viewers' living rooms across the country," said CBS Senior Vice President, Specials, Jack Sussman. "This year, we return the Grammy broadcast to Wednesday, a night that has historically provided this spectacular event with some of its highest rated broadcasts. But, regardless of the date or day of the week, the Grammy Awards is one of CBS's biggest annual events and one of the most electrifying nights of the year on television." –Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
