Iceland Airwaves Festival Looks For Up-And-Coming Bands

REYKJAVIK, Iceland (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Dirty Projectors, Of Monsters and Men, Sigur Rós are among the seventy bands that have been confirmed for the Iceland Airwaves music festival, set for October 31 – November 4, 2012.

For the second year in a row, the festival is partnering with Reyka Vodka to provide two up-and-coming American bands with a shot at performing at the festival. The “Breakthrough at Airwaves” contest will see two selected bands provided with travel, lodging and a chance to perform on stage. Interested bands must submit tracks, photos and a bio before August 1st to www.Reyka.com for consideration.

In 2011, YACHT, Caged Animals and Young Magic each were selected for the program and provided with special tours of Reykjavik.

"We were blown away," commented the members of YACHT. "It's a completely surreal, abstract concept to arrive in a country where two tectonic plates meet senselessly in the middle of a frigid ocean and the landscape bears the gnarled volcanic scars of their perpetual conflicts–and then realize that not only are there people there, but people who love music and are ready to lose their minds with you. It felt like visiting another planet." – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
