MENLO PARK, CA(Hypebot) – Music is a great connector, as anyone working to build and retain an audience on or offline will attest. Today, popular image sharing app Instagram got into the music game.
Musicians and music focused brands like MTV have always been popular on Instagram. Today the image based social network launched @music, a new account dedicated to "exploring music around the globe, from those who create it to the community around it."
@music is Instagram's first content vertical.
Updated at least 6 times a week, @music will chronicle music on Instagram. That includes "showing you a different side of artists you know and love, like Questlove (@questlove), and introducing you to up-and-coming talents like Tricot (@ikkyu193). "
@music will also highlight music photographers, album illustrators, instrument makers and, fans,; and invite community participation with a monthly music-themed hashtag.
"Music is a huge part of all of our lives here at Instagram. It’s a passion of ours, and we know it’s a passion of yours," wrote Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom.
