Judge Dismisses EMI's Lawsuit Against Seeqpod

LONDON (Hypebot) – Earlier this week, U.S. District Court Judge Laura Taylor Swain granted Seeqpod’s motion to dismiss EMI's case against them, citing a lack of personal jurisdiction in the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York.

The ruling and an out of court settlement with a co-defendant effectively ends a two year old lawsuit that put the music search and play engine under and scared away many of its competitors. The original lawsuits forced Seeqpod into bankruptcy and drew fire from new music industry advocates who believed that Seeqpod's and sites like it were important mechanisms for music discovery.
