Kaiser Chiefs Bag Diana Concert Bands

LONDON (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — British rockers Kaiser Chiefs have attacked modern rock bands booked to appear at the memorial concert for Diana, Princess of Wales, this summer, accusing the acts of hypocrisy.

Sir Elton John, Duran Duran, James Morrison, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Rod Stewart and Keane are among a star-studded lineup for the London concert set for July 1st, on what would have been Diana’s 46th birthday.

Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson claims he would have refused to perform, had the band been invited, because he never knew the princess. He accuses other bands who are participating of using the occasion simply to promote their music.

“A lot of them are doing it to sell more records,” he told NME. “It’s fine if you’re doing something like Live 8, which is raising awareness or events that raise awareness over green issues.

“That’s all right. But not just Diana. I’m not disrespecting her, but can you imagine someone like Kasabian playing at the concert? Elton John can do it – he knew her. I didn’t know her. It would be hypocritical.” –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
